One of the best ways to simplify your machining supply chain is to reduce the number of vendors you manage. At H&W, in addition to our machining capabilities, we provide a variety of value-added services that allow us to offer turnkey manufacturing. Providing these services offers our customers shorter lead times, an easier-to-manage supply chain, and significant logistics cost-savings.

At H&W, in addition to our machining capabilities, we provide a variety of value-added services that allow us to offer turnkey manufacturing. Providing these services offers our customers shorter lead times, an easier-to-manage supply chain, and significant logistics cost-savings. These turn-key services include:

  • Assembly and parts kitting
  • Gun drilling
  • Heat treating
  • Roll threading
  • Plating and coating
  • Laser Engraving
  • NDE testing
  • Mechanical testing
  • Inspection
  • Product engraving
  • Shear testing

We are always looking for new ways to partner with our customers and enhance our service offering. There are many instances where we have started manufacturing for a client and then collaborated to simplify their supply chain. We are flexible with our clients and are most interested in providing as complete of a product offering as possible.

Here are a few examples of how we’ve increased efficiency in our customers’ supply chain.

Pilot Valve Assembly

Customer Need: This customer had multiple components of a specialty valve individually machined and sent to multiple locations for assembly and testing, but needed a solution for a final lapping operation that they had difficulty performing in-house. We worked with this customer to perfect the lapping and testing operations at H&W.

H&W Solution: After mastering the lapping process, we became the source for all machining and sourcing of 30 components in the assembly, including castings purchased in the US and China; we also assemble and test the parts in-house, delivering a complete and tested product to our customer. By receiving completed assemblies, our customer saves time, frees up resources from testing and assembly, and has a fixed cost for the process. Additionally, H&W provides final quality assurance and performs in-process inspection to ensure parts are produced to customer specifications.

Shear Screws

Customer Need: This customer was having shear screws manufactured and then sending them to a separate vendor for shear testing. This caused extended lead times, especially in cases that a second batch of material or revised dimensions were required to achieve a desired shear value.

H&W Solution: Our team identified the time restraints the customer was facing and we now provide this customer with shear screws and in-house shear testing. H&W is able to shorten lead time and lower cost of product and logistics by eliminating the need for another vendor. We also partner with our customer to make adjustments to machined dimensions based on shear test results to ensure material meets customer shear range before running a full batch.

Probe Extensions

Customer Need: This customer was machining extensions for a family of parts sold in multiple sizes. To accommodate their own customer needs, they stored gun-drilled barstock, which was sawed in-house to required lengths as needed. They were looking for a way to eliminate the need to store this barstock and still be able to get the sizes they needed in a timely manner.

H&W Solution: Our team determined that it was more cost effective to gun drill parts individually after sawing to length. This helped bring costs down for our customer, eliminate material waste, and still enable us to readily meet customer needs. Additionally, we engrave each piece with material heat numbers and part numbers for clear traceability.
